Rongali Bihu, also known as Bohag Bihu, is the most vibrant and important festival of Assam, celebrated in mid-April to mark the Assamese New Year and the arrival of spring. It symbolizes joy, new beginnings, and the rejuvenation of nature.
The festival is celebrated over several days, each with its own significance. The first day, Goru Bihu, is dedicated to cattle, where they are bathed, decorated, and worshipped. The next day, Manuh Bihu, is for people wearing new clothes, seeking blessings from elders, and exchanging traditional items like gamosa. The celebrations continue with music, feasting, and community bonding.
A major highlight of Rongali Bihu is the energetic Bihu dance, performed to the beats of traditional instruments like the dhol, pepa, and gogona. Young men and women dress in beautiful traditional attire like mekhela chador and celebrate love, youth, and happiness.
Overall, Rongali Bihu reflects the rich culture, agricultural roots, and joyful spirit of Assam, bringing people together in a celebration of life and harmony. 🌿
